Outdoor Wallpaper

Boundaries between garden design and interior design seem to be a little blurred sometimes, especially in the smaller town garden, so forgive a wallpaper suggestion! Susan Bradley has created some unusual solutions to the problem of a bare wall. Her unique outdoor collection is available in various materials and finishes and she welcomes bespoke commissions. These designs can also provide a framework for plants to grow through.

Textile Art

These beautiful textiles from Paris designer Deborah Sommers are stylish and original - a must, even in the smallest garden, for those with an artistic eye. They are a perfect for a balcony, terrace, urban garden or rural idyll. Beautiful in their own right and an excellent solution too for an ugly wall, or unsightly view. Being UV protected, machine washable, and easy to hang they are practical too.

Garden Swing

How many of us can remember whiling away the summer hours on a proper 'old fashioned' wooden swing? Hung from the branches of a favourite apple tree this surely has a place in every garden. Even without children in the family, visitors will love it and this design is strong enough for adults too - perfect to unwind on whilst admiring the setting sun.

Bird Table

If you are really the couple who have everything already - consider the birds! David CraigThis bird table is almost more of a folly than a bird table but the birds do fall in love with it. It makes a strong visual statement, for example at the end of a path. Like David's other work it is manufactured from exotic hardwoods suitable to withstand the extremes of the British climate. There are three sizes. David likes to personally deliver and erect this elegant and striking creation.

Rose Supports

We have not found better quality in any range of galvanised plant supports than that from Classic Garden Elements. Apart from their robust structure these arches and pillars are really stylish. They will grace your garden even before your roses and clematis have woven their own magic. As with all our products, you may search for more items on our links but we have chosen to feature our favourites: the Charleston Rose Pillar and the Kiftsgate Arch. The Kiftsgate is available in three widths, the smallest being 1.60m. The Charleston's dimensions are 2.30m high by 0.50 wide. It is secured to the ground by a steel anchor to be set in concrete.

Wigwams & Pyramids

Jan Howard's distinctive rusted metalwork makes an attractive focal point in the flower border. These wigwams and pyramids are sturdy structures which look from a distance like hazel supports but, unlike the coppiced variety, will last from season to season. No more disturbing your favourite clematis and honeysuckles replacing collapsed frames. In winter the pyramids and wigwams provide instant height, especially arranged in groups of three. Ideal for roses, sweet peas too - or just on their own. If the 'rusted' look appeals to you, and we like it, you might want to explore Jan's full collection at www.roominthegarden.co.uk

Rusted Designs

If the beauty of the naturally rusted forged steel appeals to you, we suggest looking at the Secret Gardens range as well. Thier plants supports, arches and furniture are fun, and practical too.

Future Climbers

Whilst we know that children are probably not the first thing on your mind at this time... friends have children, relatives have children and second marriages do too! So maybe you will want to consider a little healthy entertainment for these dear visitors. We like this non-plastic, non-colourful solution which will blend fairly harmoniously into your beautiful garden. It is a bit like old fashioned meccano and can be added to, materials used are stainless steel and wood from English forests, and the natural ropes used have a breaking strain of 2000lbs!
